Ypsilanti Social Security Disability Attorney
What to Expect in Your Social Security Case
The Social Security Administration's (SSA) process for Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income cases is extensive. It can take months — even years — for you to see the relief you deserve.
At William C. Babut, P.C., our Social Security Disability lawyers work hard to give the SSA all of the information that they need to make a decision about medical benefits at an earlier stage in the process so that you can avoid years of waiting. However, sometimes we must fight by your side throughout the entire process before an SSA employee, Administrative Law Judge, Appeals Council or federal court makes a final decision on your case.
Social Security Timelines
There are multiple steps to a Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) case and months of waiting in between each step. They include:
· Time between filing an application and receiving a decision: four to six months
· Time to Reconsideration after a denied application: four to six months
· Time to Administrative Law Hearing (before an Administrative Law Judge - ALJ) after a Reconsideration denial: 12-18 months
· Time it takes to Appeal a decision with the Appeals Council:
· Time it takes to Appeal a decision with the Federal District court:
When Can Someone Speed Up the SSDI/SSI Timelines?
If you are dying or homeless, we will be able to reduce the timelines. Unfortunately, you may still have to wait months and the process may not be fast enough. We will ask your doctor for a letter to say that your condition is getting worse or to show that you have a serious diagnosis and that you need financial relief soon.
